Hamid R. Ekbia is University Professor and Director of Autonomous Systems Policy Institute at Syracuse University, where he is affiliated with the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the School of Information Studies. He studies Computer Science and Cognitive Science at Indiana University, and he is interested in how AI and computing mediate the social, economic, and cultural aspects of modern life. He is the (co)author of a number of books on these topics, including Artificial Dreams: The Quest for Non-Biological Intelligence (Cambridge University Press, 2008), Heteromation and Other Stories of Computing and Capitalism (MIT Press, 2017), Big Data Is Not a Monolith (MIT Press, 2016), and Universal Access and its Asymmetries: The Untold Story of the Last 200 Years (MIT Press, 2022).
